Isobel was born in Govan, Saskatchewan on June 17, 1925, to Donald and Mary (Cameron) Smith. She was the eldest of three children and attended the country school at Wessebo for grades 1 to 10. She attended Govan High School for grades 11 and 12 and then attended Balfour Technical School in Regina from September 1943 to May 1944.
Growing up Isobel belonged to the 4-H Calf Club and had her own flock of purebred Oxford Down Sheep. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and maintained that membership for over 70 years.
Isobel joined the workforce in May of 1944 with the Royal Bank of Canada and worked at many branches in Saskatchewan: Wawota, Balcarres, Strasbourg, Lanigan, Meadow Lake, Rosetown and Saskatoon before transferring to Winnipeg in May of 1955. She retired from the Pembina and Oakenwald branch in June of 1985.
Isobel met her future husband in the early 1970s and was married to Douglas Bain on December 30, 1977. They moved to Sanford and continued to commute to Winnipeg for work. Doug died suddenly in July of 1986 and in 1989 Isobel moved back to Winnipeg.
Isobel was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Mary (Cameron) Smith, stepmother Edith Smith, sister and brother-in-law Doreen and Peter Hryn, brother and sister-in-law Glen and Anne Smith, uncles and aunts. She is survived by her nieces, Donna Hryn, Darlene (Kevin) Stainbrook, Darcy (Melvin) Hryn-Bird, Sheila (Wayne) Smith, nephews, David (Marilynn) Hryn and Shawn (Patricia) Smith; extended family John and Mary Hamer, Dianne (Brady and Amber) Fisher, Janie Marshall, and many cousins, friends and former customers.
Isobel will always be remembered for her smile, laugh and quick wit. She will be missed by many.
A celebration of Isobel's life will be organized at a later date.
