Ione Marie Christopherson (Rutledge)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ione Marie Christopherson with her family by her side on October 4, 2022 at the age of 74 years old.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. Ione is survived by her spouse Brian James Fortier, son Randy Earl Christopherson; step children Bill (Brandy) Fortier and Kerri (Cory) Abrams and grandchildren Grier and Fiona Abrams and Levon Fortier. She is also survived by her sister Twila Orto (Mark), nieces Joelle Orto (Tim Bird), Danielle Lawrie (Scott), grand niece and nephew Ava and Kolbe. She was predeceased by Mary Isobel and Clarence Rutledge both of Portage La Prairie.
Ione was born April 18, 1948 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. She attended Rob Roy School and Portage Collegiate Institute. She then attended the University of Manitoba to obtain her degree in Human Ecology. Upon her graduation from U of M she began her teaching career in Portage La Prairie, MB and continued her teaching in Winnipeg, MB.
In addition, she was the Human Ecology Consultant for the Winnipeg School Division. She retired in 2010, but continued in a substitute capacity until June 2022.
Ione and her best friend and soulmate, Brian have been inseparable for 30 + years. They loved to spend their time together travelling extensively across Canada, United States and Europe. Las Vegas was among one of Ione’s favorite places to visit. She enjoyed the sights and sounds of all that Vegas had to offer. As an avid golfer you could often find her on their local golf course and in the winters on the greens in Phoenix, Arizona.
Ione’s zest for life was well reflected in the bright colors she gravitated towards. Ione was a beacon of light for all those who were fortunate enough to have met her. She spent her years selflessly giving her time to her students, fostering her friendships, cherishing her sister, being a devoted mother, and steadfast partner in life to Brian.
This isn’t goodbye, we will just miss you dearly until we see you again.
At Ione’s request, there will be no service.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Riverview Health Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
