It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Heather Jo-Anne Rekken (Ives). Heather passed peacefully on August 19, 2023. Heather will be lovingly remembered and leaves to mourn her loving husband Gilbert (Gil) of 53 years and her two sons Michael (Trina) and Shawn (Stephanie). Heather will also be fondly remembered by Uncle Wayne (Nancy) sisters; Norma, Melva and Shirley (Rick) nieces and nephews; Brad, Paul, Carla, Trevor, Jamie, Jackie, Jennifer, Jeffery, Kelly, Teresa, Cathy and Greg, grandchildren; Cassandra (Cassie), Joseph (Joey) Cadence and many more people that knew her.
Heather was born in Winnipeg in 1951 to Rita and Gordon Ives and was raised in Winnipeg. Heather lost her father at a young age. She was fortunate to always be surrounded by those that loved her including Uncle Wayne who helped out and always brought a smile and a laugh to the family. Heather had two younger sisters, Melva and Shirley, and the three of them were referred to as the Gork sisters.
While Heather’s mother met the second love of her life, Neil McColl, Heather had the unique situation to meet Gil, the love of her life, at the age of 15 and never looked back. They married a few years later and had two boys in the following three years. Heather was always focused on family by supporting her boys in whatever they took on. She always loved cooking and entertaining and was always so proud of Gil’s role as a firefighter and his passion for motorcycling. She loved to take part in all the firefighter events and riding the motorcycle with Gil. Heather loved to travel, and with Gil traveled extensively. She always enjoyed the Firefighter/Red Knight events and all the new friends they would make along the way.
A private service will be held for family and close friends on September 2, 2023.
