Peacefully, on Sunday, October 27th, Harry passed away at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 80 years surrounded by his three children Richard, Tamara (Jason) and Kelly (Roland). Harry was predeceased by his wife Patricia Price (nee Bennett), parents Jack and Bernice Price, and his brother John Price (Jep). He is lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Madison, Reanne, Lauren, and Jack. The family would also like to thank Harry’s cousins Lura (Toods) and Gladys for their ongoing support over the past few months.
Harry was born and raised in Elmwood where he attended Elmwood High School and played hockey and baseball for Kelvin Community Club. Harry graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1966.
Harry was known as a talented hockey player in his youth, but his athleticism also extended to both baseball and track and field. He met his wife of 57 years at the Kelvin rink at the age of 16.
In 1966 Pat and Harry were married and ventured to Anaheim, California where Harry accepted a job with Hunts Foods. After their first child Richard arrived, the couple moved back to Winnipeg where their three children grew up in Morse Place. Harry was active in the community where he coached for many years.
After moving back to Winnipeg, Harry worked at Canada Packers until 1986 when he accepted a job as Western Sales Representative for Viskase. In his last few years before retirement, Harry continued his career in the food packaging industry working for Curwood until he retired in 2003.
Harry loved spending summers at his cottage at LacLu, Ontario and was happiest when he was picking berries to make his infamous jam that was handed out to the chosen few. He also showed his passion for the lake when he wrote a LacLu History Book in 2018. Harry was able to spend a few weeks at the cottage this summer to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Price Family property at LacLu. Surrounded by his whole family at the annual Regatta, Harry was so proud to see the Price Family legacy live on.
Harry will be remembered for his sociable nature and will be missed by the many friends he made through his love of hockey, baseball, fishing, golf, and curling. While raising his family, he enjoyed playing slo-pitch with the Munroe Huskies team and formed lasting friendships with parents of the River East Marauders who he coached. Harry upheld the tradition of spending time with long term friends including the “Dirty Dozen” and “Grand Bastards”. In his later years, Harry could be found at the curling rink in the winter, golfing in the summer and having coffee with the guys at the Curtis on Saturday afternoons.
Dad, your legacy will live on. Rest peacefully now.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, November 5th at Klassen Funeral Home at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Kidney Foundation or Pellatt United Fire Fighters, Box 1, Site 6B, RR1, Keewatin, ON, P0X 1C0.
