January 18th, 1916 – September 6th, 2010
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Grace at the age of 94 in the Maples Personal Care Home.
Grandma will be deeply missed by her daughters Pat (Ken), Sharon (Clive) and her son Danny (Kristina) her grandchildren Donna (Lyle), Connie, Samantha, Sherry, Gentry and Dax. Her Great-grandchildren Dwayne (Sheila), Amanda (Nelson), Jennifer (Cesa), Gregory and six Great-Great-Grandchildren; Ashleigh, Hailey, Alessia, Jessica, Brandon and Melia. She was predeceased by her husband George in 1989 and her great-granddaughter Megan in 1997.
Grandma was born in Wiarton, ON to Wilson and Emma Hayes she was the fourth of five children. Grandma was married to George on December 31st, 1970 at Chalmer’s United Church. She worked in a hospital as a health care aide, went on to work in the Richardson Building and then to Eaton’s where she retired thereafter.
For fun Grandma enjoyed doing ceramics at Bleak House, playing bingo and cards with friends. She loved to listen to Irish music. Grandma and Donna also enjoyed travelling together on several trips to BC, Saskatchewan and they had a blast on their cruise to Alaska. Grandma had a substantial collection of bells, sun catchers and wind chimes.
Even when Grandma became legally blind she did not let than get in the way of her living her life “her way”. She continued ceramics, albeit with magnifying head gear and she became way more touchy-feely.
Grandma especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved to visit on birthdays, holidays and most of all she enjoyed our Christmas morning traditions.
In September of 2002 failing health necessitated Grandma’s move to Maples Personal Care Home. There she enjoyed taking part in all the activities provided. Grandma and Donna are very thankful for the care and kindness given to her by the staff of the Home.
Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 13, 2010 at Atlantic Garden City United Church at 1:00 pm with Rev. Mary Best officiating.
Grandma’s final resting place will be with her parents and siblings in Wadena, SK.
In lieu of flowers donations in Grace’s name can be made to Bleak House Center Inc. Or to CNIB.
