Allen was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, but spent most of his life in Winnipeg. Allen was a gifted athlete whose passion for sports always remained strong. In his years at Grant Park High School, Allen played football and ran track. In the community, he played competitive hockey and baseball. In his university years, he played defence for the University of Manitoba Bisons Hockey team. As an adult, golfing was his love.
Allen and Dawn met at the University of Manitoba and were married August 11, 1973. Allen was a loving husband who cared deeply for Dawn. When Andrew and Ian came along, Allen was the devoted father. He spent countless hours coaching and supporting his sons’ many sports activities. At home, he often relaxed with Detre or Johnny his Hungarian Vizslas, curled up on his lap. Allen and his family enjoyed many summers and holidays camping, fishing and travelling together.
Allen was a loyal employee of Cubex where he worked as the Controller while helping to foster a strong culture of caring. Over the years Allen made many life-long friends at Cubex, including his close friendship with the owners Kitch and Bill Wilson.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the many doctors and nurses who provided such wonderful care for Allen over the years especially Dr. Ade Olujohungbe; nurse, Karen; pharmacist, Marc; and the many caring nurses in the Chemo Treatment Room of CancerCare Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Allen’s name to Multiple Myeloma Research CancerCare Manitoba or to Myeloma Canada.
