It is with deep sadness that the family of Eduard Lemke announces his passing on April 26, 2021 at the age of 84, peacefully, at the St. Boniface Hospital.
Ed was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Ingeborg, and his sister, Wanda Tober. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his children Ron (Debbie) Lemke, Dennis Lemke, and Monica (Sam) Lercara, his sister Anna-Marie Lylyk, dear friend Valerie Poshtar, his grandchildren Michael (Stephanie) Lemke, Daniel (Kyla) Lemke, Rebecca (Ryan) Harry, and Julia Lercara, as well as eight great-grandchildren.
Born on October 24, 1936, Ed spent his childhood in Germany and Poland, and arrived in Canada in 1953, settling in Winnipeg. In October 1960 he married Inge, and they raised their two sons and daughter in a loving and happy home. Ed worked in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Manitoba for 32 years and retired in 1995.
Ed loved the outdoors and being out on the water. During the summer of 1958, after 65 hours of practice, he and his friend Manfred put their canoe in the water in Edmonton, and paddled an historic route to Winnipeg along the North Saskatchewan River and Lake Winnipeg. Many happy summers were spent camping, fishing, and picking blueberries at the family trailer in Ontario. He also enjoyed photographing family events, helping others with construction and repairs, playing chess, ping pong, Scrabble, cribbage and Sudoku puzzles, and listening to opera and classical music. Ed’s ability to creatively fix almost anything, his broad knowledge of so many things, and his wisdom will be sadly missed by his children. Ed will be remembered for his kindness, his positive attitude and easygoing nature, and his devotion to his family.
Arrangements are being made with Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home to hold a private family service.
