Edgar John Miller

1935-2012

After a long a hard fought battle with cancer, Ed passed away quietly in his sleep at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit on November 11, 2012.

Ed will always be loved and forever missed by his best friend and wife of 57years Maureen and beloved daughters Cheryl-Ann Laycock (Lanny) and Heather Miller of Vancouver, BC, granddaughter Brandy Hurd (Keith), great-grandchildren Graeme, Corrina and Ian Hurd as well as his mother-in-law Jean Rankin whom he loved dearly.

He was employed with Corrections Canada as a plumbing instructor for 30 years before retiring in 1993. Ed had many interests in his life. He was an artist, photographer, fisherman, wine maker, cook and gardener. He was a long time member of the RPPC at the South St. Vital YMCA-YWCA. He and Maureen together learned conversational Spanish, ballroom and square dancing. He loved to travel and over the years they visited many countries. He always said that “the best part about going on a vacation was coming home!” His two favorite vacation spots were Bali, Indonesia and the family cottage at Rush Bay, Lake of the Woods. When Ed built the cottage there was no electricity available and he sawed every board by hand. His daughters said that Dad could fix anything if he had the duct tape and silicone. We shall miss his wit, wisdom and whistling. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Ahmed, Dr. Lau, Dr. Gingerich, Kristie Mordyz NP, and the entire staff at the Cancer Care McCharles Unit. A heart -felt thanks to St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit. You are very special people. We would also like to thank Dr. A. Jowett and his nurse Agnes at the Charleswood Medical Clinic who cared for Ed for many years. And last, but by no means least, to the Palliative Homecare Team and our nurse Louise who has helped us immensely over the past year.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at Thomson Funeral Home on Friday, November 16, 2012, 2:00 p.m.

We will always remember the way you looked

The way you walked and smiled

The things you did for us

Are with us all the while

You never failed to do your best

Your heart was true and tender

You lived your life for those you loved

And those you loved remember
