It is with great sadness to announce the sudden passing of our mother at the age of 79 in December of 2020. Another victim of the pandemic, covid-19 took her from us much too soon.
Born in 1941 to the late George & Helen Longclaws on the Waywayseecappo First Nation, mom was the last surviving member of 5 children.
She leaves to cherish her memory 3 children; Dwayne Gordon, Natalie Encontre, & Brenlee Cleeton-Longclaws (Patrick). She also leaves grandchildren to remember her; Brooke, Sebastian, Roberta, Dharma, & Nyomi, as well as great-grandchildren.
Mom spent the majority of her life in Winnipeg, and a good part of her work life as an office manager for the Department of Education, Native branch. She pursued her dream of becoming a social worker and graduated with her BSW. Despite being unable to fulfill her dream, she was always happy. She always referred to herself as a "poor church mouse", and no matter what situation she found herself in, she maintained her joy. Mom was always loved by the people who had the pleasure to make her acquaintance.
Family was always first & foremost with mom. She enjoyed puzzles, soap operas, and bingo. She loved Jesus, going to church, and singing in worship. She will be greatly missed by her family & the many friends she made throughout her life.
We are grateful to the many health-care members who took care of her in the last few years of her life. Thank you to her workers at Point Douglas Home Care, Kekinan Centre, and St. Norbert Personal Care Home.
Due to the pandemic, a very small, private graveside service was held.
Thank you Thomson Funeral Home for helping us grant mom's final request of being laid to rest in Transcona.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Alzheimer Society in memory of our mother.
