William Alfred had a spectacular life. He was born on July 18, 1934 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to James and Laura Rosevear. Bill was 2nd to last born and enjoyed being spoiled by his older sisters and antics with his brothers Bill predeceased all of his cherished siblings Terry, Jim, Bertha, Eileen, Doreen, Jack, Tom, and Georgina. Uncle Bill and Great-uncle Bill (GUB) was a family treasure and adored by nieces and nephews across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Bill had a group of friends from grade school, guys and gals who chummed around having the kind of fun that you could get away with back then, he loved telling the best stories ever told of his life adventures. Well, he maintained those early friendships for 80 years. Bill hitch hiked as a teenager to the Yukon during his summer holiday's from school to work as a short order cook and signing the sections of the Alaskan highway built. Bill’s first job was at the Prince Albert Daily Harold as the newspaper photographer. In 1963 he hitch hiked from Saskatchewan to Halifax and took the Queen Mary across the pond to Liverpool. He spent the next two years hosteling through Europe and North Africa. He fell head over heels in love with England, a relationship with the country and family there through the rest of his life. Bill came back to Canada in 1964 to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with a Yorkshire bride, Joyce. He was working at the television station in Saskatoon when his son, Marc Colin Richard was born in March of 1967, and daughter Amanda Evelyn born in December of 1968. The family moved to Windsor, Ontario in 1969 and Bill worked as a professional news film camera man for Channel 9, CBC T.V.
He worked and played the rest of his days in Windsor and enjoyed watching his Grandchildren grow up; Joshua William, Laura Violet Rose, Brian Joseph, Joshua Marc, Naomi Joy, Judah Timothy and Nicole Lee and later on watched his Great Grandchildren being born; Hailey Nicole, Austin Riley, Mackenzie Lee and Emma Grace.
He was a “Mall Walker” and had a group to walk with everyday and became great friends. They would pile into Tim Hortons after for a coffee and chat… recovery time? Bill loved being behind the camera, loved reading, golfing, water sports, ice skating and curling. Travelling and exploring history was in his blood. He loved spending time with his family. He loved Canada and was a proud Canadian Ambassador everywhere he travelled in the world.
A memorial service will be held at the Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Bill will be interred in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in the Rosevear Family Plot at a later date, when the golfing weather is better.
