Effie Lou Smith

Effie Lou Smith, age 86, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023. Lou was the daughter of the late Larkin and Lizzie Mae Sanders Marcus. Lou was preceded in death by her husband C.L. Smith. She will be remembered as a cook at Bethlehem Elementary and as the lunchroom manager at Auburn Elementary for five years. Any time the school board had a meeting, they would have Lou do the cooking. She was famous for all her bakery items, but especially her Coconut Cream Cake and her Pecan Cake. She always helped with the chicken stews at Corinth United Methodist Church. She loved working in her vegetable garden and she always shared the vegetables with friends and neighbors. She looked forward to going to the Senior Center in Winder where she had lots of friends. Lou was a woman of faith and served in many roles at the churches she attended over the years. Family was her first love.

Survivors include her children: Tim (Lisa) Wilson and Carla Rogers; brother: George Marcus; sister: Mattie Crawford; and three grandchildren: Larkin Wilson, Taylor (Tony) Figueiredo, and Riley Wilson.

A visitation for Lou will be held Monday, May 1, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, Georgia. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 2:00 pm in Smith Memory Chapel. The interment will follow at Barrow Memorial Gardens.
