Carolyn Evans Childers of Winder, GA passed away on September 26, 2015 at the age of 80. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Carolyn passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends. Carolyn grew up in Oconee County and attended Bogart High School and Athens Business School. Outside of being a stay at home mother and wife for years, Carolyn returned to work in the Oconee County School System serving as a teacher aide in both the Elementary and Primary schools for 22 years, retiring in 1998. Her church was a very important part of her life and was a member of Hebron Christian Church since childhood. She enjoyed music, playing the piano and organ and singing in the church choir. She was not shy about her support of the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves. For those who knew and loved her, she will be remembered for her grace, laugh, smile, friendship, and love of God. These traits are only a few of a very long list. She was a loyal and dedicated wife, mother, aunt, niece, cousin and friend whose heart was bigger than life. She is now at peace with her Heavenly Father and those who preceded her in death.
Memorial Services for Carolyn will be held at Smith’s Memory Chapel, 755 Atlanta Highway SE, Winder, GA 30680. Family will receive friends on Monday, September 28 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Memorial Service will be Tuesday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Smith’s Memory Chapel. Interment will be at the Hebron Christian Church cemetery.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 59 years, J.C. Childers, Winder, GA; son Mark Childers, Winder, GA; daughter, Lori Childers, Atlanta, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Ray Evans and Lizzie Lou Evans and her precious son, Christopher Todd Childers. Carolyn also leaves behind a niece, nephews, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, many cousins who also love her dearly, and her beloved cat Gracie.
Flowers are welcome as Mom loved them. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated in the name of Carolyn Childers to the Athens Area Human Society, Emory Winship Cancer Center, Atlanta, GA or the American Cancer Society.
