Born Daisy Ruth Tatum, Mrs. Skinner was a native of Bladen County, the daughter of William Geddie and Annie Davis Tatum. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Lee Skinner; three brothers, Wilbur Tatum, Edgar Tatum and Edward Tatum; and four sisters, Macie, Myrtle, Ruby and Lois; and brother, The Rev. Colin Curtiss Tatum.
Ruth lived a life of service following first after her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. As a loving wife and mother, she served in many roles… both within her family, through her commitments within the Church as well as throughout her 45+ year career in the workforce.
She leaves to cherish her memory two brothers, Verdie Tatum and Olin Tatum; her sons, David Lee Skinner and wife Christina of Clayton, Kenneth Skinner and wife Mildred, 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2024, in the chapel of Thomas –Yelverton Funeral Home, with Pastor Jack Stone of Present Day Ministries officiating. The family will receive friends briefly after the ceremony. A private burial ceremony will follow at a later time in the church cemetery.
