Shelby Dean Herring Powell Evans

Shelby was born on January 11, 1940 in Harrells, N.C. She was the youngest of four children, born to the late Winnie Louise Mathis Herring Matthews and William James Herring.

Shelby is survived by her children; Marie Young, Debra Farrow (Benny), Pete Powell; two grandchildren, Tiea Young Whaley (Danny) and Jamie Farrow (Meghan); six great grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashley, Effie, Sarah, Ben and Deghan; great-great granddaughter , Jocelyn; brother, Stephen Herring of Florida and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her brother, J.R. Herring and sister, Elma Boone. Her career as a medical assistant was her favorite, though she retired for medical reasons from G.E Nuclear.

A Visitation will be held at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and at other times at the home of Debra and Benny Farrow. A Funeral Service will be held at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 11:00am with Internment at The Harrells Cemetery in Harrells, N.C. at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Temple Baptist Church, Lower Cape Fear Hospice or a charity of ones choice.
