Patricia (Pat) Carberry Tobin died at home on Saturday April 14, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was born in 1927 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Ruth Griswold Carberry and Joseph Carberry.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Jim and survived by daughters Pat Smith and Linda Tobin of Wilmington and son Robert and daughter in law Patricia of Chesapeake, Virginia. She was the proud grandmother of Michelle, Sara, Erin, Meghan, Caitlyn and Bryan and loving great grandmother to Evan, Alex, Zoey, Jaye, Brady and Aidan. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Carberry.
Pat was a graduate of Coe College where she obtained her registered nurse diploma while a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. After graduation she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where she met her husband who was stationed at Pearl Harbor. As the wife of a career naval officer, she traveled extensively while raising her family and volunteered her time with the Navy Relief organization.
Pat was very active in the Wives of Submarine Veterans of World War II organization and was a past National president.
A memorial will be planned in the future. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
