December 14, 1938---June 5, 2023
On June 5, 2023, Patricia Dotson Fowler finished her journey on earth and went home to Heaven. Pattie was born in Jenkins, Kentucky. She always thought of herself as “a coalminer’s daughter”. Her early life started in Pound, Virginia. She embraced her Appalachian roots. At the age of 12, her family moved to Annandale, VA outside of Washington, DC. She had five sisters. She learned to work hard. Pattie eventually moved to Wilmington with her husband and only son. She was successful at a young age building a vibrant real estate rental business. She built/owned her first home at the age of 25 and stayed for the rest of her life. Pattie’s style of dress and decorating were influenced by First Lady Jackie Kennedy whom she greatly admired. She was also a fan of Elizabeth Taylor and Clarke Gable. She loved the music of Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, and much of the early 60’s Nashville Sound. She also loved the poet Edna St. Vincent Millay. Pattie was an advocate for women in business. She was a lover of children. It was important to her that all children were seen, heard, and valued. Pattie was a landlord by trade. She helped many people along the way, in many ways. She was instrumental in helping Grace Baptist Church and Wilmington Christian Academy procure their current North College Rd Campus. Pattie had a great sense of humor. Her life was as large as her personality.
Pattie was preceded in death by her parents, Emerson Dotson and Bertha Dotson and two sisters Freddie Reavis and Neta Warawa.
She is survived by her only son Bobby Earl Fowler (Susan) of Wilmington and three sisters Connie Anderson of Augusta, WV; Sondra Dron (David) of Wilmington, and Nelda Parker of Warrenton, VA; two granddaughters: Erica Helms (Jeff) of Waxhaw, NC and Christian Fowler of Wilmington and three great grandsons: Cannon Helms, Emerson Helms of Waxhaw, NC and Finn Gilbert of Wilmington.
Pattie had many close friends and family. Special thanks to Linda Beightly for over 34 years of faithful service as her office manager/coworker. Thanks to Shirley Miller for her trips and friendship; to Ann Thompson and her family for those golden days when the children were young; to Elissa Ray Burford of New Zealand, whom was loved and adored as her own. Thanks to all those that laughed with her.
Pattie will be greatly missed by those that met her and came to love her. Special thanks to Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their beautiful care of Pattie in her final days.
The Funeral will be held at 11AM on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Coble Funeral Service at 1155 Shipyard Boulevard, Wilmington, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow the funeral service at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
