Devoted mother and sister, Mary Elizabeth Evans Diggs (Libby), of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. She died surrounded by her family members. Libby was born in Hamlet, NC on August 4, 1950, to Edwin and Barbara Evans, who both preceded her in death. Libby worked for many years in various jobs, but she was a housewife and stay-at-home-mom most of her life. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church for over 30 years where she sang in the choir and was a member of Coastal Community Baptist Church for the last 10 years.
Libby is preceded in death by her sister Sara “Cartie” Carter. Libby was the wife of Keith Diggs of Wilmington, NC. She is survived by her son Jonathan Diggs (Amy) of Wilmington, NC, daughter Jennifer (Tommy) of Currie, NC, grandchildren Andrew, Sharon, Solomon, Gannon, Rachel, Kevin (Elizabeth), Sydney (Josh), great grandchildren Anna Bradley and Brantley, sister Rebecca Boney (Cary) of Wallace, NC, sister JoEllen Stewart (Keith) of Pine Bluff, NC, brother-in-law Larry White of Carthage, NC, and many nieces and nephews. Libby’s family was her pride and joy. She was devoted and loyal to her family, whom she loved with all her heart. She was also very loving and giving to her many friends.
To those who knew Libby, know how much she enjoyed her Gaither music and being around people. It is no secret that she loved to talk! She always had a story to tell! Many, many laughs, as well as many tears, have been shared with Libby through the years, and we will remember all that she brought to this world. She had a personality that was hard to forget! She was a fighter and a breast cancer survivor, but eventually, several other health problems took a toll on her physical body. She knew that this world was not her own, and she was ready and longing to meet her Savior Jesus Christ face to face. One of her favorite songs was “Goin’ Home” sung by David Phelps. Now she has finally arrived at her eternal Heavenly home! She is now “talking with the Lord.”
The Funeral service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Coble Funeral And Cremation Service Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the funeral in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
