Margaret was born in Rocky Mount, NC in Edgecombe County to the late Lucy Thomas Sullivan and William Ashley Woolard.
The youngest of four sisters, Margaret was raised in Rocky Mount and later moved to Baltimore Maryland with her mother, Lucy. While there, she began a long career as one of the first employees of the Social Security Administration when it first began in 1934. Margaret moved to Wilmington several years after retiring.
Margaret was extremely fond of cats and had them for many years. She was a lover of all things in nature and she especially appreciated birds. Margaret was also an avid gardener and continued that hobby through the aid of her care givers here in Wilmington. Margaret grew up visiting the NC coast and especially Long Beach NC where she continued to visit in recent years. Margaret was also quite the photographer in her day and was the family movie maker, recording many treasured events in movie format as well as still shots.
The youngest of four sisters, she was devoted to the care of her recently deceased sister, Rachel Woolard who preceded her in death in 2014.
Those also preceding her in death were her oldest sister, Wylma Woolard as well as her sister, Thelma Woolard Soloway and nephew, Harry (Pete) Bernard Soloway, Jr.
Margaret is survived by her niece, Julie Soloway Poole of Wilmington NC, Susan Soloway Daul of Matthews, NC, and Bette Ipsen Soloway (Pete) of Princeton, NJ. She is also survived by 7 great nieces and nephews and one great great niece.
Margaret was a most sweet, and kind person, always caring for others. She possessed a clever wit for puns, even up to the day of her passing.
She was loved and admired by all who knew her and will be sorely missed, but never ever forgotten.
A memorial service will be announced at a later time.
We would like to extend special thanks and appreciation for all of the love and care given to Margaret in the last few years by a wonderful group caregivers,”Girls Only.” Thank you Wanda Edens, Brenda Russ, Betty Henderson, Joan Collis, Deanna Rhodes, Nanette Strawn and Judy Sellers.
