Louis Patrick Cardamone

Louis Cardamone, beloved resident of Bellport, Long Island, and Wilmington, NC, bid farewell to this world on April 22, 2024 at age 92, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and dedication. Born in 1932, Louis was a cherished member of both communities, known for his unwavering kindness and commitment to making a difference.

Throughout his life, Louis exemplified the values of hard work and perseverance. He was an army veteran of the Korean War, and dedicated public servant, having served the Village of Bellport, NY for more than 40 years. His devotion to his community knew no bounds, and he was always there to offer support and guidance.

Professionally, Louis was a respected Highway Superintendent, known for his expertise and integrity. He approached his work with passion and commitment, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. He participated in training others as part of the New York Public Works School as well as other local, regional, and national organizations.

Louis was also a highly successful amateur race car driver, whose presence on the track was as remarkable as his presence off of it. Louis's love affair with racing began at a young age, fueled by a fascination with speed and a competitive spirit that would define much of his life. As he honed his skills behind the wheel, he quickly became known for his fearless approach and natural talent on the racetrack. Whether tearing up the asphalt at local circuits or competing in regional events, Louis's determination and skill earned him the respect of fellow competitors.

After retiring to Wilmington, Louis enjoyed tremendous success as a senior softball player, having been a team member of North Carolina state champion team for 15 years as well as participating in the National Senior Olympics. Whether he was spending time with his family and friends, tending to his yard, or fixing just about anything, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Louis will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, compassion, and zest for life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to cross his path.

Louis is survived by his companion of more than 25 years, Sharon Dixon, sons Eric and Louis Cardamone, sister Lucille Kranz, and nieces MaryJo Schultz and Joanna Broszeit. Though he may no longer be with us in person, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service to celebrate Louis's life will be held at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Friday, April 26 from 2pm-5pm.
