Kim (Butch) graduated from Firelands High School in Lorain, Ohio in 1967 and immediately joined the Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam in 1968. After finishing his tour of duty, he graduated from Ohio State University in 1975, where he met his future wife, Sue. They were married in 1975 and were about to celebrate 49 very happy years of marriage.
Kim worked as a teacher/football coach in Kenosha, Wisconsin and then moved on to manufacturing, spending time with both Jockey International and Sara Lee (Hanesbrands); he traveled extensively throughout Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean, until his retirement as a VP of manufacturing. Kim was very active in the Pine Knoll Shores Volunteer Fire Department, the Marine Corps League and was a proud Gunny Claus for many years.
Kim, known for his quiet demeanor, wisdom, and wry humor, spent many happy hours playing golf at Pinebrook, Morehead City, Pine Valley and Compass Pointe and boasted 3 hole-in-ones. He was a hard-nosed competitor (even at $1 a hole!) and well known for his “insightful” commentary on the golf course (and elsewhere).
In addition to his wife, Kim is survived by his daughters Lt Col Stephanie Myers, USAF, married to Ryan and CDR Jenny Myers Pike, JAGC, USN, married to Jacob and two precious grandsons Jackson and Maddox. Kim also leaves behind a sister, Myra Sue Myers, a brother, Scotty, married to Sharon and many nieces and nephews.
