George William Baughman, 87, of Wilmington, passed away on May 20, 2014. He served in the US Navy and was a decorated Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Baughman loved golf, diving, and playing his guitar; however, he was happiest spending time with his family and was a member of Landfall C.C. and the YMCA. Mr. Baughman is most noted as bringing Toyota to Wilmington in 1967 as Baughman Toyota and later sold the business to Rick Hendrick.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Baughman; his children, George D. and his wife Deborah of Reedsville, PA, William F. and his wife Gail of State College, PA, Carol Fairchild of Wilmington, and Warren Lucas Baughman of Wilmington, and Whitney Noble. Also, survived by his grandchildren, Douglass, Nicholas, Thomas, Jeremiah, Katie, Lucas and Lindsey and five great grandchildren.
His visitation will be on Sunday, May 25, 2014 from 5-7pm at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home, 3915 Oleander Dr., Wilmington. Graveside Service on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 11am in Oleander Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 306 Bradley Dr., Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to Pine Valley Baptist Church, 3940 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28403 would be appreciated.
