In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lola Baines; son, John Michael Baines; daughter, Lori Lynn Baines; stepson, David Tolbert and sisters: Katie Gold Bates and Opal Dale.
Mr. Baines served in the US Navy on the USS Hollister in Korea and Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was a NC State Highway Patrolman for several years in Greene County and Washington, County and later became the Chief of Police in Wake County. He moved to Riegelwood, NC where he retired from LCP Chemicals
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Stennes and husband Marty; stepdaughters: Linda Sams and husband Ronnie, Brenda Watts and husband Eddie and Debbie Garrett and husband Kenny; stepsons: Leon Tolbert and wife Susan and Randy Tolbert and wife Tracie; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, 15 step grandchildren; 21 step great-grandchildren and four step great-great grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held from 6pm until 8 pm on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Prosper Baptist Church. The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Prosper Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Prosper Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
