He was born in Greensboro, NC on April 13, 1950, to the late David William Tolbert, and the late Lola
Highfill Baines.
David was a decorated Vietnam Veteran who served in the US Army from 1968 to 1972. By
trade, he was an Instrument Technician in the oil and gas refinery business. He was an avid
music lover, a musician, and played guitar in a band for many years.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and being on his boat, the “Jessi Jane”. He loved animals
and had many faithful dogs throughout his life.
David was preceded in death by his parents, David William Tolbert, and Lola Highfill Baines.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Katherine Muse Tolbert; by his children: Daughters,
Tammy Long and husband Steven; Jessica Tolbert and husband Aaron Brunner; and Jane
Tolbert; and Son, Brad Tolbert and wife Heather;
by his sisters, Linda Sams and husband Ronnie; Brenda Watts and husband Pastor Eddie;
Debbie Garrett and husband Kenny; and his brothers, Leon Tolbert and wife Susan; and Randy
Tolbert and wife Tracie;
by his grandchildren, Zachary Long, Jacob Long, Luke Long, C.J. Tolbert and Kameryn Tolbert;
by his step-father, Garland Baines; step-sisters, Sherry Stennes, and Lori Baines; as well as
many nieces and nephews;
and by his five dogs, Moji, Mali, Bandit, Joey, and Rocky.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at Prosper Baptist
Church in Delco, NC. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at
the Prosper Baptist Church Cemetery.
