Cheryl Dawn Ursery Lee, 42, of Scotts Hill NC, completed her earthly mission on November 30, 2017. She was born in Alamance County, NC on December 21, 1974 to Janet and Don Ursery. As a faithful follower of Christ, Cheryl spent her life in service to others. Cheryl found her lifelong passion for dancing at a young age when her mother Janet put her in her first pair of dance shoes. Cheryl pursued her passion and graduated from Meredith College in 1997 with a BA in Dance. She then spent the next ten years as a high school dance teacher helping others find and develop their passion for the art she so dearly loved. After several knee surgeries Cheryl realized that she would not be able to keep up the physical demands teaching dance requires but still wanted to have an impact on the lives of young adults. While continuing to work full time Cheryl completed a master’s degree in school administration from Appalachian State University. Cheryl then spent the next 6 years as a high school administrator devoted to helping young adults determine their path for the future. In 2009 Cheryl left the school system and shifted her focus to being a stay at home mom to her two remarkable boys Turner and William. Always active in church, Cheryl became very involved in a group focused on mothers of young children called Mother's Connection. It was here that she would find the direction for her new mission in life. Cheryl eventually accepted the role as a leader of this group and as part of her mission became very involved in the church's ministry to young children. This involvement would blossom into being asked to join the church staff as the children's pastor at Wesleyan Chapel UMC in Scotts Hill. It was here that Cheryl spent her last years on this earth dedicated to the spiritual formation of our community's children. Cheryl oversaw all aspects of the church's children's ministry including vacation bible school, K-5 Alive, the church's Wednesday after school ministry, Sunday school, all of the children's programs, and most importantly being a steadfast example of what it means to follow Christ. Cheryl loved children and felt blessed to be able to help them discover a relationship with our living God. Above all else Cheryl was an incredible mother and devoted wife. Her short time with her boys was spent loving and cherishing every moment while setting the example of how to live a life devoted to our one and true God. A life not lived in fear, but lived in faith. No Fear, Just Faith. This is a lesson that will never leave them.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her grandparents Hal and Zilpha Hargrove, and William and Caroleen Ursery.
She is survived by her husband of 11 years and best friend Brian, her sons Turner and William, mother and father Janet and Don Ursery, father and mother in law Harold and Dianne Lee, brother Tim, sister in laws; Michelle, Heather, Turisa, brother in laws Hal and Joe nephews; Jarreth, Josh, Taylor, Jonathan, Josh, Ben and Matthew.
A celebration of Cheryl's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday December 9th at Wesleyan Chapel UMC in Scotts Hill, NC. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wesleyan Chapel Children's Ministry, 10255 US-17 Wilmington NC 28411.
