Anna was born on July 26, 1929 in Honolulu, HI, daughter of the late Gabriel and Julia Kukahiwa. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Wells; and sister, Jeanette Aiona.
Anna met an American sailor, Paul F. Wells while he was serving on the USS Renshaw. They married in 1952 and after returning to the United States made their home in Wilmington, NC near the Seagate Community. She worked for the New Hanover County Schools, such as the “old” Bradley Creek School, Blair Elementary and Noble Middle Schools, as a cafeteria worker for 20 years until retiring in 1991. She had no children of her own so she showered all the children she was around with her sweet smile and loving spirit. She had a special place in her heart for her husband’s nieces and nephews and treated them with her unique humor and affection. Anna enjoyed gardening and volunteered at the New Hanover County Senior Center working with the Meals on Wheels Program and made many life-long friends there. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
Anna was survived by her brother, Herbert James and wife, Frances; sisters, Ruby Moretto , husband John; Joan Flint; Julia Kukahiwa; Gloria Needs, husband Eric; Eugenia Himan, husband Richard; Mary White, husband David; and Grace Agbayani, husband Warren.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 11:00am at the Black River Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 65 Eddie L. Jones Road, Ivanhoe, NC 28447.
