Aaron was born on January 30, 1973 to Kathy J. Hamill and Lance R. Smithley in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Aaron enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 1991. He was commissioned in August 2001 and served for over 20 years in the United States Marine Corps. He was deployed six times; three to combat. He was the recipient of two awards for valor; the highest being the Bronze Star with “V” device for heroic action in connection with operations while serving as the Executive Officer for Company C, 2nd Marine Tank Battalion in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II.
He is survived by his parents, stepfather; Kelly Moore, stepmother; Wanda Smithley, wife; Michaela Reyes Smithley, three daughters; Mia Jo, Isabella, and Vivienna, two sons; Zachary and Gavin, all whom reside in Wilmington, NC. His sister, Bethany Luciani resides in Hartstown, PA, and his two brothers; Brett Charles Smithley resides in Palmdale, California and Lee Smithley resides in Bremerton, WA, and his maternal grandmother, Jo Hamill resides Ligonier, PA.
Aaron was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather; Carl L. Smithley, paternal grandmother; Ruth A. Smithley, maternal grandfather; Charles P. Hamill, grandmother; June Moore, and grandfather; Roy Moore.
A visitation will be held from 6 PM until 8 PM on Friday, October 21 and 4 PM until 5 PM on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held following the visitation at 5 PM on Saturday with Chaplain Jonathan Jones, LT USN.
