At Camp Ramah in Wisconsin, your father was admired and energizing. He took me on to prepare for my bat mitzvah portion, Noah. As the Torah cycle brings us to the portion again, I am especially aware of the connection to Shelly as teacher, patient and motivational for learning troupe and Rani Akara...

I am grateful that I was able to have access to Rabbi Switkin's memorial service on-line.  I have heard so much from him and Linda about their adored daughters, and it was tremendously moving to hear them speak about their father during the service.  

With great sadness but much appreciation for the time I and my late partner Bob Zimring were privileged to know Rabbi Switkin.

One thing that some might not know is how Shelly loved  his baseball.  One thing we shared in common is our love of the Cleveland team.  It was fun to go to a game with him when Cleveland played at Minnesota. 

He was a great man and in many ways I wish he had been my father  (even though he was not that much older than me) or older brother.

Linda and Family,
I just found out about Shelley passing and I just broke down. He was the Director of Jewish Family Service in Dayton, OH, I was the secretary. He was there when I left to start a new life with a new husband in FL. We had a lot of fun working together and I loved it when his family came into the office. The girls were very young.  It was the early 80's. He used to track me down in the building when Tim would call from overseas so I could talk to him a few minutes. I even kept a new couch in his office because I had no other place to store it. He used to teach Yiddish phrases to me and laugh when I messed them up. I gave him insight into the community, people, places and functions going on. When I was getting ready to leave, he wanted a job description for my job because it had changed so much through the 7 years I was there. The only thing that didn't get completed was the Soviet Resettlement Program and he teasingly complained that it was one of the most needed. I did get the outline done though! He will be missed. We didn't stay in touch as I wished I had through the years, but he always had a place in my heart. He was a wonderful supervisor and friend. I knew I could always count on him.

Shelly was such an important part of our family. We got to know Shelly and his family over 25 years ago when we first started visiting Danville Illinois. We spent most every Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur amongst other holidays with Shelly, Linda and the girls. When our daughter Cameron was born,  Shelly came to our home to perform her baby naming and 13 years later he came to Toronto Canada to run the service for Cameron’s bat mitzvah . We were hoping that one day he would do her wedding. We have so many wonderful memories of Shelly and his family, sharing dinners at his home, wonderful Sukkot ceremonies in the back yard and sharing great times together. Shelly will be deeply missed by the Garshon family. Words can not express the love and support he has shown our family through the years.

Dear Linda and family,

I am so sorry about Rabbi Switkin. My memories of him and your family go back to Camp Ramah in the early 1980s. I hope all of the good memories help you through this difficult time. May his memory forever be a blessing.

I've also special memories of a short period in the late 1980s when I had a project near Columbus and visited several times at his/Linda's home.  A unique soul, one whom I now know better due to the amazing eulogies of his daughters and granddaughter today.  

Despite the fact that we haven’t been in touch For many years, switty has always been in my life. My memories of him are of one of the big boys, along with danny and Arthur and lee and Seymour , of a caring and warm person.
