Laurie Don, originally from Highland Park, Illinois, passed away on October 9, 2024 in Burbank, California. Laurie thrived in the Film and TV entertainment industry. Her love of film and numbers led her to Deloitte and Touche (earning her CPA while working there), GTN Productions, Viacom, Paramount Studios, Warner Bros. Studios, Lucas Digital, and the Jim Henson Company, retiring recently as its CFO. During her career, Laurie was known for leading with kindness and fostering a strong sense of community. She had a profound and lasting influence on the lives of the many colleagues she mentored.
Laurie graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (BA, Film Studies), and Baruch College (MBA, Accountancy). While completing the coursework for a Masters of Fine Arts in Cinematography at Columbia University, she achieved her first film credit (“Say Amen, Somebody”).
Laurie travelled the world for work and fun, and loved skiing on the highest mountains in the US, Europe, and South America.
She dearly loved her family and cherished the time spent with them. Laurie is predeceased by her mother, Florence (1994) and her father, Jerome (2020). She leaves behind her loving family, friends and associates, her partner Deborah Antonio, aunt Frances Don Roston (Louis), sister, Marcia Don Harpaz (Yacov), brother, Russell Don (Betsy), cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnephews, grandniece and her pet AJ.
Graveside service with Rabbi Lisa S. Greene of North Shore Congregation Israel is at noon Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to worthy organizations are welcomed.
