Jim “Moose” Swartchild, age 84, passed peacefully on May 23rd. Cherished husband to Peggy Baer, he adored her and made her laugh for 58 years. Devoted and loving father to Pamela (Dan Horwitch) Swartchild, Jill (Chris) Lebsock and Amy Swartchild.
Moose attended Glencoe’s Central School, New Trier High School, and Bates College. He had a storied career in commercial real estate, highlighted by his partnership at Frain, Camins, and Swartchild. He was a mentor to many in the field. He will be remembered for his love of his family, friends, and life itself. Moose was known for his incredible sense of humor, quick wit, perfect timing, and making connections with everyone he encountered. He was the best dressed…dapper at all times. Among his favorite loves were Mel Brooks, Frank Sinatra, and blue cheese olives.
Moose was wildly treasured by his grandchildren Jessica, Blake, Sadie, Cate, Jordan, James, Charlie, and Tommy. Born to the late James and Catharine Swartchild, beloved brother to the late Gail Wolff, brother-in-law to Alan and the late Nancy Kessler, and deeply loved by his nieces and nephews Susan (Sam), Ted (Anne), Janet (Dan), and Bruce (Randi).
Moose touched many lives and made everyone he met feel special and important, and they were to him. He was the glue to his friends, the light in the room, and the funny bone to all he touched.
Memorial service will take place Tuesday, June 11th, 3PM at Lake Shore Country Club, 1255 Sheridan Rd, Glencoe, IL 60022. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society (cancer.org), The Nature Conservancy (preserve.nature.org), or the Joffrey Ballet (joffrey.org).
