Ellen T. Thomas

Ellen T. Thomas (nee Taylor), age 85, of Winnetka, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2022; beloved wife for sixty-three years to the late John T. Thomas; mother to Johnson (Becky) Thomas and Evan (Maria) Thomas; proud grandmother of Jay and William Thomas, R.J., Beatriz, Julia Thomas, and Grace (Thomas) Velazquez; adored great grandmother of Vincent and Tony Thomas, Giovanni and Sophia Velazquez and Trinity Thomas; loving daughter of the late Benton Sellards Taylor and Jennie Alexander Taylor, and sister of the late David Taylor.

Born and raised in Mariemont, Ohio, Ellen held dear her friends and memories from her youth in Cincinnati. Ellen was a graduate of Miami University and a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She resided in Cincinnati, Connecticut, and London, England, before settling on the North Shore of Chicago living and raising her family in the same Winnetka house for forty-eight years.

With active volunteer roles in the United Fund, her university and sorority alumni groups, the annual Winnetka rummage sale, the Winnetka Women’s club, and with her work at Northwestern University, Ellen was proud of her family and community. She will be missed by many friends.

Family and friends will gather for visitation from 12pm – 3pm, and a memorial service from 3pm – 4pm on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home, 1100 Greenleaf Avenue, Wilmette, IL 60091.
