Doctor Erk was absolutely brilliant he delivered my first baby 34 years ago this past Monday. I am extremely sad to hear of this news… RIP sir

I am so sorry to hear about this -albeit so late.  Coming from Canada, Dr. Erk was always so kind to me and "made it work".  This news came as a shock, and I hope that the family is doing better now.

In my daughter’s visit to Buffalo she found out about the news. Although I did not see him as a patient, my daughter did , and she had nothing but positive comments about him as a doctor and person. Dr. Erk and Dr. Susan Erk are the only doctors in my life that i have ever bragged about. Their reputation  precedes them, when dr. Susan Erk came to sisters hospital as a favor to me, she was like a superstar. I could hear everyone in the halls greeting her with excitement. I was hesitant to see a male doctor but Dr. Mehmet Erk was just as amazing. Ive been his patient for 15 years. We laughed together at my last appointment before having my son when i asked him to hold him up like he caught a fish for a picture (long story). But when he delivered my son, he remembered! So right after the c-section, he held him up for the picture. and its the most amazing (and gross to some lol) picture ever! I loved him. He always took time with me, never looked in a hurry, and just listened sincerely. The medical community lost a great one. My condolences to his wife and children.

My heart is broken. I had to cancel my appt with Dr. Erk in November and now tried to schedule only to find we lost him.  He has been my OB/GYN since 1995 and delivered my son in 1997.   I have no words and am so incredibly sad.

He was an AMAZING doctor, surgeon, and a professional friend.  My condolences to Susan, and the rest of the family. He is now with his brother.

I was deeply saddened to hear this news and wanted to send my deepest condolences to the family.  I was a patient of Dr. Erk's over the last 30 years (and only not a patient when I was not living in WNY).  I remember clearly the first time I went to see him - my mother was with me because I had been battling pain throughout my young adulthood but many of the doctors I had seen were either unable to help or had terrible bedside manners. I cried to Dr. Erk as I explained what I had gone through (and not the only time I cried to him) but he patted me on my knee and told me he could help. 

A couple surgeries under his care and many years of his - sometimes stern - advice, I am doing so well that my young self would never believe it. I recall the nurses telling me after my second surgery that I was very fortunate to have Dr. Erk as my doctor and surgeon. 

I know I am not alone in missing him already.  May the amount of posts here and the number of lives he impacted be of at least some solace to his loved ones.  He was an amazing man.

Over 25 year ago Dr. Mehmet accepted me as a patient even though his patient load was full, because my friend, one of his other patients asked him to.  I was finishing the process of a miscarriage with less than compassionate care from my prior OB.  Dr. Mehmet made time to see me right away. I knew he was different from our first meeting.  He was always so kind, compassionate, and went the extra mile.  He delivered my daughter and my son.  With my son I had complications early on, and because of Dr. Mehmet's extra diligence, I credit him with saving his life. Dr. Mehmet, thank you for the gift of my son.  Thank you for the gift of having a doctor I could completely trust. Thank you and Dr. Susan for establishing a practice with such kind and compassionate staff.  Thank you to Dr. Mehmet's family for all of the many times you sacrificed your time with him so that he could help someone else.  

The world is a kinder place because of his influence.

Dr. Mehmet  was an amazing person that constantly brought joy to so many lives. He not only helped bring me into this world, but also was a great mentor. I was lucky enough to spend my OBGYN rotation with the Erks about a year ago. There was never a dull moment spent with Dr. Mehmet. The knowledge he taught me about both medicine and life is something I will carry with me forever.  His care for his patients was exceptional; he always went above and beyond. As a new provider myself, I will never forget the way he taught me to care for patients and continue to grow my knowledge. Maybe God bless him and his family through this tough time. So much love for Dr. Susan and her family.

To the Erk family, You should be proud of what an impact your Dad had in our community. He was an outstanding surgeon, brought into this world many babies and worked together as a team with your Mom providing quality patient care to all his patients. I would like to express my deepist sadness for the lost of my uncle Mehmet the twin of my father Dr. Ahmet Erk. We have been living in different countries for so many years, but now it's really hard to accept he is no longer here.
Since the day he passed away, I have been thinking of the memories I have with him from my childhood. Now I feel that I lost one more part of my childhood.
Last time I saw him, a few months ago I felt happy, safe and thought how much they still look alike with my father.
I hope they are together now.

We were saddened to learn of Dr. Mehmet’s passing. He was a wonderful physician for the last 25 years. He brought one our children into the world. I wasn’t nervous when he was on call in the hospital when I arrived even though I usually saw Dr. Susan. She asked if she should come in and I said “no way, stay home and enjoy your evening, Mehmet has this!” And he did. He and I recently joked about that child now driving and he said, “yeah, what’s with the teens leaning back so far when they drive that they can barely see over the dash!” We both had a good laugh so I hope his lovely family reads all these kind messages. I am so sorry for your loss. Dr. Erk was an amazing physician who saw me as a scared 21yo  patient when he was with Dr Merrilees on Columbia. He was so kind, caring and smart. While no one likes going to the GYN, Dr Erk somehow made it better. 
In 1990 Dr Erk found a growth under my chin that turned out to be a large thyroglossal duct cyst. My primary never noticed. 
In 1995 I decided to return to college to become a PA. I asked Dr Erk’s advise and he told me to do it. I never looked back. 
Thank you for sharing Dr Erk with the rest of us. He made the world a much better place.

Dr Mehmet Erk took over my retiring doctor's practice, Dr Merrilees, on Central Ave in Lancaster over thirty years ago.  There were some complications when I was in the delivery room at Millard Fillmore Suburban and here walks in Dr Mehmet Erk introducing himself with a big confident smile assuring me that everything would be alright. Shortly after, my son, Nicholas Mark Landgraf was born. I have since been Dr Mehmet Erk's patient. Not only was Mehmet an extraordinary, talented individual and friend, but a skilled surgeon as well performing a brand-new bladder procedure on me at the time that was extremely successful. I am blessed to have known him and will miss his expert advice and sense of humor. With much gratitude, rest in peace Dr Erk.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Mehmet's passing. To say that I am heartbroken is an understatement. I have been his patient for 32 years and he delivered all 4 of my children.
During one of my yearly visits, I told him I don't know what I will do when you retire. His response, " I will find the best doctor." I replied, that's impossible, you're the BEST doctor! Dr. Erk's compassion, humility, and integrity were second to none.  At every visit, he would ask about my husband by name and waited to see updated pictures of my kids, and ask what they were up to. My deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time. Dr. Mehmet Erk has been my Gynecologist for over thirty years, as I started seeing him in my early twenty’s. Dr. Erk was compassionate, caring, empathetic and his bed side manner was unmatched. Last December, I was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer. About fifteen years ago, Dr. Erk recommended I get breast ultrasound in conjunction with my mammograms. This saved my life! My cancer was caught early, and this is all because Dr. Erk was thorough, and he cared!! This is a grave loss for the community and the patients that he took such great care of! This is Derya Kadir Bilen, brother of Ziya Bilen. At this moment I’m on a long journey on the sea and I’m very sad not to be able attend the memorial. 
My brother and Mehmet Erk’s paths crossed after 1980 and they developed a great friendship. They lived together in Buffalo and supported each other far away from home. Susan and all the kids treated Ziya, myself and my family members as their own. In August 2018 we learned that Ziya had cancer and I moved to Buffalo to take care of my brother. During his illness for three years the support we received from Mehmet and our Turkish friends was above and beyond. Mehmet was a true brother to my brother Ziya. He has done everything he could to support and comfort us during those difficult times. He was a second brother to me.Two years ago I lost my brother but I had Mehmet. Today I’m deeply saddened  to learn that I lost him too. I’m glad we have met, became lifelong friends closer than family. In our culture when one passes we ask their blessing and give our blessings. Mehmet and the family, we are eternally grateful for what you have done for us, give our blessing and ask for your blessing, we love you all.

He was one of a kind..so caring and kind and always there to help me with concerns I may have had...His intellect and knowledge were amazing ,  always 
aware of the latest methods and treatments in  Obstetrics and Gynecology.

So very sad to hear this news. I had the pleasure of working with both Mehmet and Susan Erk since they were residents and fell in love. Way to many memories to pick out one. The Erk family have my deepest condolences. I was a charge nurse in the OB/GYN clinic at BGH when both Memet  and Susan were residents they were both hard-working, dedicated physicians. He had a drive that never wavered to see his patients quickly and efficiently and he never slowed down. I just had to assure that I kept ahead of him. Then we met again in surgery at Millard and he was the same ! I wish his children my deepest sympathy for the loss of such a dynamo HUGS

I am so heartbroken for you, and I feel so honored to have been under both his care and yours. You both brought my sons safely into this world, and for that I am forever grateful. He was such an intelligent, understanding, loving human. An excellent doctor, and from seeing the pride and joy in Dr. Susan’s eyes - an amazing partner and father to his family. I am so very sorry. I am truly saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Mehmet. He was a brilliant doctor and a kind soul.  He will be missed.

I am devastated to hear this news of Dr Erk’s passing. He was the kindest and most compassionate doctor I have ever known. Never rushed, always considerate. My deepest and sincere condolences to Dr Susan and their family, and all of his colleagues and friends. He will be missed beyond measure.

I am so incredibly saddened to learn of Dr. Erk’s passing. I will be forever grateful of the care he gave me when I was pregnant with my first son.  I think of the “small talk” we would have during our appointments. I would always ask about his children and he would beam with pride talking about where they were in their lives. I am so heartbroken to hear this news. Dr. Mehmet delivered all 4 of my babies. He made sure he was there for each c section scheduled. I will never ever forget the reassurance he gave to me when having my first children when needing my emergency c section. During a time of such uncertainty, he made me feel so calm and I trusted him entirely. I would see him for all my appointments during my pregnancies even when I would technically only need to see a nurse. The amount of compassion, wisdom, care, and honestly he provided during each appointment and delivery is something I will forever cherish. He was the absolute best doctor and he will be SO very missed! My children will absolutely know how great of a doctor he was when they get older! My sincere condolences go out to his family.

I am so saddened by Dr. Erk's passing.   I am so fortunate to have know him and to be under his care!! Many times he showed me compassion and personally communicated  wonderful news from "it's a girl" 3x to giving me the all good, "everything is negative"!   He will be so missed!!  My thoughts and prayers are with his whole family.  💞

I am so incredibly devastated and sad to hear this news about Dr. Mehmet Erk. He had been my doctor for over 30 years. Were it not for his incredible surgical skills and expertise, my only child would literally not exist. There really are no words adequate to describe how I feel about him. He was more than simply my doctor, as he was such a kind, caring, simply wonderful individual he made me feel like much more than his patient. I jokingly told him I owed him so much more than I could ever repay as he gave me my beautiful son. When I told them I could never thank him enough, he was always so humble. My deepest  condolences to Susan, all of their beautiful children, and to everyone else who loved him so. There will never be another like him!

I am so extremely saddened hearing about of the loss of Mehmet as he was a very special person in my life! I worked for him and Susan at their house for years taking care of their children and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!! I was also his hairdresser for years too! Mehmet also delivered all 6 of my children and I had complications with a few of them and he was there every step of the way comforting me and reassuring everything  will be okay!! He had  so much compassion for his patients When my daughter Brooke was born “after 3 1/2 months of  bedrest “ he held her up and said here’s your miracle baby!! He was an exceptional doctor and friend and I aways looked forward my yearly visits to catch up on everything going on in our lives!! Mehmet will be greatly missed for years to come by so many and my deepest condolences go out to Susan and the children!! I am so sorry for this tremendous loss as he truly was a great man!!

I have worked with Dr. Mehmet for many years at his office.  He was the most dedicated Dr. & loved by all of his patients.   I have stories from patients, too many to count, of how he changed their lives through infertility issues or his brilliant surgical skills.  He touched so many lives & will be missed always. Dr. Erk was my OB/GYN for over 20 years, he was kind, compassionate & a wonderful physician. I am deeply saddened by his passing. He was like a family member to me, hard to find that relationship with a provider these days. He saved my daughters life & my life when I had preeclampsia & our health was failing & in serious jeopardy . I owe our lives to Mehmet & will be forever grateful for his quick actions & that I was able to have an uneventful second delivery. Dr. Erk delivered all four of our children. He was patient, kind and simply a wonderful man. He came in each time to pull up a chair and chat and made us feel like we were his only patients at the time (which we knew was not the case). Sending love and prayers to his family.
