Jumhauer, a nickname I gave him in reference to his email address, was a wonderful coworker. He inspired me in so many ways. For one, he collaborated with me to bring library services to our veteran population. His perspective was invaluable when making in roads with this student population. Secondly, I was inspired by him to get into public libraries. Most professional librarians stay on the same track that they start in. Well, he shared his joy with all of them. I mentioned to him how he was the inspiration for my leap into another lane. Joe was much too modest to take any credit for that. I greatly appreciated his candor, wisdom, and good humor. He will be sorely missed. 

Joe, cheers to reuniting with your soulmate, Donna. 

.... Joe always made me feel a part of the family and welcomed. I remember fondly being at his and Donna’s home, refreshments in the garage and seeing Sara and Genna become wonderful young women. Rest In Peace Joe.

I also worked with Joe at the NU Library.  In fact, we both started on the same day. Joe was the most compassionate, caring, patient and funny guy.  When my former boss retired, Joe took me aside and asked me if I was going to apply for her position.  I hindered about it and told him that I was a little concerned about my computer skills.  He told me that I should apply and that he would have my back.  Well I applied, got the job and Joe did his part also.  
He would always chuckle about my Canadian ways of doing and saying things. He always asked about how my growing family was doing.  Joe, you are going to be so missed.  It makes me feel better to know that you are now with your  soul mate Donna and the two of you can together watch down upon Sarah, Genna, Kerry and Skylar.  God bless you all.

As a previous member of the NU Library I have known Joe since the day he joined our staff. I admired how he always spoke lovingly of his wife and children, how he entertained us with his stories, and how he expertly and calmly used to advise and guide us. After I retired Joe and I stayed  in contact around Christmas time. In his last note in 2018 he mentioned his family and how much he missed Donna. But he also let his great sense of humor come through when he congratulated me for surviving a heart attack by writing "if you even have a heart"!
He is now with his his beloved wife Donna, may they both Rest in Peace!

I was fortunate to work with Joe at Niagara University for almost 20 years - my desk was next to his for several of them. 

Joe was happy, helpful, festive (he dressed up for Halloween and St. Patrick's day), and funny (always cracking jokes). He would regularly regale us with stories of his life experiences. I also remember him giving us candy on Valentine's Day. 

Joe was generous with his time and spirit, and I will never forget his caring and supportive words when my dad passed away. 

Rest in peace, Joe - I take comfort in knowing that you have been reunited with your beloved wife, Donna. 

I will miss you terribly.

When Joe interviewed for his position at NU, I remember thinking how lucky we were that he had applied.  He was an expert systems administrator and cataloger.  But he also proved to be an awesome colleague. He was one of the best natured, cooperative people I have ever worked with, and his presence made coming to work more enjoyable. We will really miss him.

I worked with Joe in the NU library. I got to know him closely last year on a pizza party for students and an Ice cream social Joe hosted in the break room. He was such a nice man and he shared with me a lot of his life experience. I remembered his funny hat on the ice cream social and his peanut crunch for me after the party. I cannot accept the loss of him. It is too sudden! 
He is so nice and peaceful, I am sure he is enjoying peace in heaven! God Bless Joe's family!

Joe will be greatly missed here at Niagara. He was a respected colleague and a wonderful  friend.

My heart goes out to you.   Your dad was such a great guy and my parents and I always enjoyed catching up with him when we visited Buffalo.  He was so proud of you both and always excited to share what you were up to.   I am so sorry for your loss.

I always enjoyed his stories of his family and laugh at all of his wonderful jokes. He loved to tell stories of when he was a Taxi  driver. Joe was always there for me when my husband became sick.  Joe  will be missed everyday. 

Joe was a good friend and respected colleague. I worked with him at Niagara University, and he was a source of expertise, entertaining stories, and good humor. I will miss him.

His lighthearted ways and kind spirit was a wonderful addition to our work family. I will miss his spark and constant willingness to help anyone anytime. I will also miss his rainbow wig at Halloween.
My Deepest Sympathies to his Daughters and extended family. Joe may you be at peace with your love of life, Donna.  Praise God for His promises!


I had the pleasure of working next to Joe for 15 years at Niagara University. I enjoyed all the stories of his family and his time in the military.  He was a fun, loving person and will be greatly missed. I am so glad you both went to school at Niagara so I got to know you. I will always be here for both of you at any time.

I recall Joe well from our Timon years. Same home room. Joe was a smart guy, good athlete and very much a stand up guy. Well thought of by all.

Joe was a real Timonite back from ‘64 - ‘68.  Well respected and thought of. Saw him at our 50th. May he Rest In Peace.

Joe was a great guy and I remember him well during our years at Timon.  Joe was a gentle soul, but his star shown when he played the lead role in "David and Lisa" Senior Year.  Simply a great guy!!  Godspeed, Joe!

Joe your sense of humor and good nature will be dearly missed. God bless you my friend and may you rest in peace.
