March 8, 2021. JoAnn Marie Caligiuri joined her mother, Luisa, in heaven on Monday, March 8, 2021 after 52 years of life. The youngest of ten children, JoAnn, touched countless lives with her positive energy, captivating smile, and infectious personality. JoAnn was born with Down syndrome. And what a Blessing it was. She taught us so much in life and never let her disability interfere with her plans. Stubborn to the core, and fiercely independent, JoAnn usually got what she wanted. Her mother made sure of that. JoAnn was a proud graduate of Kenmore East High School, a longtime competitor and volunteer coach in the Special Olympics, a constant at The Buddy Walk, and a pretty darn good bowler. Putting all her brothers and sisters to shame, JoAnn excelled at every job. Regardless of the job description, JoAnn was the ultimate client liaison. With jobs at Wendy’s, The Boulevard Mall, Tops, and Wegmans, JoAnn greeted everyone with a warm smile and a story-or-two. Affectionately referred to as “Aunt J” by her many nieces and nephews, JoAnn loved her family. When she was in her twenties, she moved into her own apartment through Heritage Christian Services, a wonderfully inclusive organization that allowed JoAnn to expand her wings and reach her fullest potential. JoAnn is survived by her loving father, Michael, her uncle, Monsignor Angelo Caligiuri, her nine brothers and sisters, and their wonderful spouses, her 28 nieces and nephews, and her 8 grand nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the Caligiuri family asks that you consider a donation to Heritage Christian Services at https://heritagechristianservices.org/donate/donate/ .
