Frederick “Fred” Meerman is now with his Lord and Savior, at age 95.
Born April 10, 1918 in East Lansing to Wiert and Effie (Sichterman) Meerman, he proudly served in WW11 for the Air Force, worked for Renauds Plastics, then went on to retire from Oldsmobile. Fred loved woodworking, and was instrumental in the restoration of the Williamston Depot. He was well known for his involvement in the community including serving as president of the Williamston Kiwanis Club, a member of; the Masonic Lodge #153 F & AM, the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 29, the American Legion, Williamston United Methodist Church and West Locke Wesleyan Church, and was voted Citizen of the year for Williamston.
Frederick was preceded in death by his grandson; Nathan Todd Weddon, wives; Ruth Mae Sommer and Hope Thompson, two sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife; Peggy, daughters; Karen (Gary) Levene, Christine (Kim) Gildea, Debra (Daniel) VonBehren, one step-daughter; Jerilyn (James) Mulhern, two step-sons; Theodore (Janet) Thompson, Brett (Mary) Thompson, granddaughters; Lisa Marie Maggio, Emma Ruth and Mya Kimberly VonBehren, three great-grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, and sister; Anna May Mead.
VISITATION WILL BE AT GORSLINE RUNCIMAN FUNERAL HOMES, 205 E. MIDDLE ST., WILLIAMSTON ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2013 FROM 10-11 A.M. The funeral will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with interment at Summit Cemetery, Williamston.
