The next chapter in his career included the formation of his own consulting firm, as well as advisory work with Karoub Associates. In 1968 he was selected one of the top trade association executives in the nation by the American Society of Association Executives, and in 1972 served as President of Capitol Club of Michigan. Don was appointed to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Committee of 100 in 1976, and was elected President of the Savings Association Trade Executives in 1980. He was honored with induction in the Michigan Society of Association Executives Hall of Fame in 2007.
