Walt was born January 22, 1960, in Louisiana to George Allen Burnette, Jr. and Nina Mae Crawford. He was the younger brother of Russell Burnette (May) whom he admired greatly. He spent his childhood traveling the United States while his father proudly served in the military. Walt attended Denbigh High School in Newport News, Virginia and after graduation, attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman (go Sooners). He was a member of the Alpha Gamma chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Walt cherished those friendships and bonds that turned into family.
Walt lived in Williamsburg for the past 20 years, where he worked at Vacation Village Resorts as a closing officer. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and his colleagues who he was very close with. Walt enjoyed reading and learning about history. He had a true passion for writing; he was a phenomenal writer and had a way with words. He spent many days on the water bass fishing with his brother and close friends. He was a true OU fanatic and lover of ice cream.
Walt was the proud father of his three children that he shared with Robyn Ross: Cameron Burnette (Ashley), Christy Harrel (Dustin), and Catie Silva (Josh). He was the best pawpaw to Reed, Blake, Carson, Brooks, and soon-to-arrive, Lyle. Walt was welcomed home with open arms by his parents, George and Nina, and his brother, Russell.
Walt was a loving soul; he radiated happiness and had an infectious smile. He was kind, hardworking, and lived for every moment. He was the best dad, pawpaw, and friend. Walt will be greatly missed but forever cherished. May his legacy and memory live eternally.
