Born on April 25, 1946, to Russian immigrants in New York City, Ruth was a testament to the American dream. A star student, she graduated from CUNY and began graduate studies at Princeton University in Biochemistry research. Eventually, she traded the solitary nature of scientific research for a fulfilling career as a roving U.S. Food & Drug Inspector, and later, became an FDA executive. She was independent, adventurous and charted her own course through life. It was during this time she met the love of her life, Bill, with whom she shared nearly 55 years of marriage. Their unique bond and shared passions were both admirable and inspiring, and throughout their years together, they never spent a single night apart.
As a mother to Jessica and Audra and a beloved grandmother to Vivian, Evelyn, Noah, Anya, and Ethan, Ruth's life was centered around her family, her passions for books, horses, culinary arts, and travel. Her remarkable ability to organize beautiful family gatherings left a legacy of connection and love.
In her retirement, Ruth's dedication extended to volunteering with AARP and VICAP, where she applied her sharp intellect to helping others, providing free tax preparation and Medicare counseling. She found immense fulfillment in helping people through these meaningful activities.
Ruth Sherman’s life was full of family, lifelong learning, love, travel, and adventure, leaving behind a legacy cherished by those she touched.
