He was born April 10, 1931, in Allen County, Ohio, to the late Roland Dean and Ruth L. Raver Stemen. On April 5, 1952, he married Nesta Ann Reese, and they shared 56 years of marriage prior to her death on July 23, 2008.
Roland was a graduate of Gomer High School (Ohio) and served in the United States Army with duty at Fort Dix, New Jersey and White Sands Proving Ground, New Mexico. He worked many years at Myers Pro Hardware and retired from Moulton Electric in Wapakoneta, Ohio. He was a member of the New Town United Methodist Church and former member of Westview United Methodist Church. He was a Life Member of the Cridersville Volunteer Fire Department, where he held all ranks including Fire Chief and served 44 years.
Following retirement, Roland worked for Bayliff and Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, and ultimately relocated to Williamsburg, VA. Roland continued his service to families in their time of need with Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas A. (Pamela) Stemen of Huntersville, NC and Bryan L. (Luly) Stemen of Stafford, VA; three granddaughters, Elisabeth Ann (Josh) Lawson, Sophia Aurora Stemen, Meredith Bryn Stemen; and two great-granddaughters, Tallulah Boone and Bellamy Grace Lawson.
Services will take place at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 8 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, OH, with visitation from 10:00 - 11:30 AM. He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Nesta.
