Nelson E. Hobgood

Nelson E. Hobgood, 82, of Williamsburg, VA passed away on May 1, 2016 after a battle of cancer. Nelson is a native of Oxford, N.C.; born May 31, 1933 and has been a resident of Williamsburg, VA since 1961. He is preceded in death by the love of his life of 31 years, Kay L. Hobgood. Survivors include their daughter, Shanna H. Johnson, son- in-law, Brian D. Johnson and two beautiful granddaughters, Kayla D. and Kasey L. Johnson, all of Toano, VA; and a brother, Joseph Hobgood of Hickory, N.C. Nelson was a member and deacon of Grace Baptist Church of Williamsburg. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 6 AF & AM of Williamsburg, Pocahontas Chapter No.103, Order of the Eastern Star and the Moose Lodge No.757. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Nelson was employed by Williamsburg Fire Department in the 1970s and was employed by Eastern State Hospital, retiring after 27 years. The family will receive friends at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA on Tuesday, May 3, where Eastern Star and Masonic Rights will be given from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, followed by a visitation from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, May 4 at 11:00am at Gwynn’s Island Cemetery, Mathews, VA, conducted by Rev. Steve Wiley.
