Max I. Taylor, formerly of Buffalo Grove and Grayslake, IL and currently a resident of Williamsburg, VA where he had resided for seven years, passed away on October 1, 2014 at the age of 91. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, VeNeta L. Taylor; his son, Alan Taylor of Midwest City, Oklahoma; daughters, Paula Boschen of Williamsburg, VA, and Leigh Anne (Doug) Hoffman of Anthem, Arizona; his grandchildren, Nicki, Michael, Samantha, Karen, Amy, Ryan, Andrew, Ben; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his brother, Harry Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents Ira and Irene Taylor; sister, Alice Ann; and brothers, Ralph and Charles.
Max was a WWII veteran, serving his country in the Army’s 1st Infantry Division in Europe, landing on Utah Beach in France on June 9, 1944 with the 7th Corp of the 1st US Army. He was awarded a Bronze Star and earned 5 campaign stars on his ETO ribbon for his service. He was manager of accounting for American Airlines in Chicago, IL before retiring after 34 years of service with the airline. He began his career with American in Washington, D.C., and later transferred to New York, NY. Max was a member of the Libertyville Presbyterian Church while living in Grayslake.
Max was a Life Member and Past Master for the Arlington Heights Masonic Lodge #1162; Past High Priest of Palatine Chapter #206, Royal Arch Masons; member of Bethel Commandry #36 in Palatine, IL; the Scottish Rite; Cryptic Council #46; the National Sojourners; and NW Suburban Shrine Club.
Max and VeNeta enjoyed traveling after he retired and he loved to take pictures of everything he did. He enjoyed reading, music, genealogy, old time radio, coin collecting and spending time with friends and family.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17 at 3pm, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, Virginia 23502.
