Maureen Catherine Winans

Maureen Catherine Winans, 80, of Williamsburg, passed away on July 19, 2024. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Catherine and William Waters; parents, Vivian and John Daly; and brothers, John and William Daly.

Maureen’s purpose in life was to be the best mother she could be. She exceeded all levels in being truly the greatest mother. She shared her strong morals and beliefs with her children and grandchildren which will guide them through their lives. Family was very important to her, and time spent together was always cherished. She found the love of her life with Lynn Joseph and that love was immeasurable. Maureen was also devoted to her faith, being a long-time member of St. Bede Catholic Church.

Her memorable times are too many to list but she often spoke of adventures with Lynn, trips to New York City, camping, being at the beach and shopping, especially for her shoes. She lived a simple and virtuous life. As Frank Sinatra beautifully said, “She did it her way”!

Maureen is survived by her husband, Lynn Joseph Winans; children, Lisa Schap (Randy), Cathy Shaffer (Tim), James Collins (Annette), and Patrick Collins (Ann); grandchildren, Christopher (Melissa), Brian and Michael (Tabitha) Schap, Andrew, Matthew, Joey, Lauren and Johnny Shaffer, Ryan (Jena), Connor (Sofia) and Sean (Olivia) Collins, Erin and Jacob Collins; great grandchildren, Remington Schap, Penelope Schap, Tensley Collins, Brecken Collins, Finnley Collins and Francis Collins, Issac Shaffer and Olivia Shaffer; step children, Robert Winans (Susan), Karen Winans and Kathryn Wefel (Matthew) and three step granddaughters; siblings, Kathleen Matheny, Thomas Patrick Daly (Melanie), and Eileen Veselick (Michael); as well as fourteen nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 10:00am at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, Virginia. Burial will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
