John Shostak, 78, died at the Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg on October 11, 2014 in Williamsburg, VA. He was born in Hartford, CT on October 11, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maria; by his brother, Steve; and sister, Olga. John is survived by his wife, Joanne; children, Keith (Corinne), Dean (Valerie) and Jack (Linda); and seven wonderful grandchildren; David, Chloe, Richard, Abby, Alex, Josie, and Tricia. John graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1956 and then attended night school for 10 years and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hartford in 1968. After receiving his BSEE degree, He worked in the private aircraft industry for five years and then worked at the US Army Aviation and Technology Directorate (AATD) at Ft. Eustis, VA for 25 years, retiring in October 1998. He was very proud of his work and completion on the Army Aviation’s “Longbow”, (helicopter radar), program for 10 years. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Williamsburg, VA. He really enjoyed his monthly luncheons with his former colleagues and retired friends from AATD. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, from 6pm-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA. A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 17, beginning at 2pm, at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3638 Ironbound Rd., Williamsburg, VA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com.
