Frank MacDonald Morton III

Frank MacDonald Morton III died January 4, 2015, in Estero, FL, their winter home since 2009. He was 72. He was born in Baltimore, MD, and traveled with his Naval family to many assignments including Hawaii, California, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Although he lived in many places, his heart was at home at "Hilltop" his family home on the Rappahannock River near Waterview, VA. His desire for more continuity in his education led him to Saint James School in Hagerstown, MD. After graduation in 1961, he attended Gettysburg College, earning a BA in Political Science in 1965. Law School at the College of William and Mary took him to Virginia. He received his JD in 1968 and went to work as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Newport News. In 1973, he was hired as the first County Attorney for James City County. For the next 31 years he provided legal guidance to the County Board of Supervisors as the County grew from a sleepy rural town to a vibrant community of over 50,000. He enjoyed golf and the many special friendships he made through the game. He was preceded in death by his dearly loved grandmother, Marion Powell Morton, and his parents, Frank M. Morton, Jr. and Frances H. Morton. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 19 years, Kelly Medlin Morton. He is also survived by and is most proud of his son, Hunter M. Morton (Debra) and grandsons, Carter and Ryder, all of West Hartford, CT; his sister, Hope Jacob (Ric); nieces, Bess Riddle (Ralph) and Marion Ruzecki (Joe) of Arnold, MD; father-in-law, Jack T. Medlin and brother-in-law, Kevin T. Medlin and his family, all of Tulsa, OK. He will be forever missed. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 16, at 2pm, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA.
