E Jay Boykin Evans

E Jay Evans, age 89, passed away at her home on Sunday, August 27, 2023 with her daughter Kim by her side. A native of North Carolina, she had lived in Williamsburg for the past 61 years. Mrs. Evans retired as a school bus driver for the York County School Division after 36 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents Chesley and Nettie Boykin; her husband Henry Alvin Evans; sister Vertice Harris; and brothers Vernie, Elmer, Ernie and Johnell Boykin. Survivors include her sons, Alvin Evans (Anne) and Thomas Evans, all of Williamsburg; daughters, Cheryl Otey and Kim Hayes, all of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Lance and Steven Evans, Stephanie Langford, Shannon Salmons and Chris, Jeffrey and Ashley Gibson, and Skylar and Kendall Hayes; and 16 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Evans will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 1 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, where funeral services will also be conducted on Saturday, September 2 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
