Amy Lewis Cooper, aged 83, passed away on September 29, 2024, in Williamsburg, VA. Born in Bryn Mawr, PA, on August 23, 1941, Amy was a beacon of kindness, generosity, and warmth and was cherished by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Amy completed her early education at Harriton High School in Rosemont, PA, before advancing to Temple University in Philadelphia and Parsons School of Design in New York City. Her academic pursuits paved the way for a diverse professional journey. During her husband's tenure in the military, Amy traveled with him throughout the country and in Europe, working at various Defense Department assignments. Following her husband's retirement, the couple relocated to New York City, where Amy embarked on a successful second career in the fashion industry, working in the executive offices of Calvin Klein and Salvatore Ferragamo while maintaining a second home in Williamsburg. This allowed the couple to enjoy both the amenities of the city and the tranquility of the Williamsburg area.
Beyond her professional achievements, Amy was passionate about the arts, entertainment, history, travel, and animal welfare. Retirement in Williamsburg allowed her more time to indulge in these interests, hosting gatherings for friends and engaging actively with Antique Adventures and continuing education programs at the College of William and Mary. Her involvement with activities associated with Colonial Williamsburg highlighted her love for history and community. Alongside her husband, Amy also proudly participated in the Pilots and Paws program, flying abandoned animals from kill shelters to their new "forever" homes throughout the eastern seaboard.
Amy was the beloved wife of Walter A. Cooper. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph F. Lewis; her mother, Katharine R. Lewis; and her brother, Ralph R. Lewis.
Private services will be held in Philadelphia, PA, and an online memorial will be available at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Williamsburg Landing, honoring Amy's memory.
Amy's legacy of love, friendship, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her. True to her nature, she would have wanted everyone to celebrate the joy and memories she brought into their lives, rather than mourn her passing.
