Larry was born on July 21, 1934, to Cyril T. “Cy” and Matilda J. “Tillie” (Sloboda) Rechichar in Ralph, Pennsylvania. He was a 1952 graduate of Redstone Township High School and played 3rd base on Redstone's 1952 WPIAL Championship Baseball team. Larry went on to play four years in the minor leagues for the Pittsburgh Pirates, playing one season each for the Hutchinson (Kansas) Elks (1953), the Brunswick (Georgia) Pirates (1954), St. Jean (Canada) Canadians (1955) and the Kinston (North Carolina) Eagles (1956). Following his baseball career, he married Sylvia Kisko in August 1956, and after many years living in the Greater Cleveland, Ohio area, they moved to Charleston, South Carolina in 1985. During his professional career, Larry was employed as a meat cutter and merchandising representative for the Kroger Company and Bi-Lo supermarkets.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Sylvia; his Mother and Father, and siblings Cyril J, Barbara Lazo, and Judy Weiss. He is survived by daughters Valerie (Tom) Kaiser of Marion, Ohio, Lauren (Brian) Wilt of Acworth, Georgia, and son Adrian Jr. (Marcia) of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also survived by his grandchildren Matthew Kaiser of Hurricane, West Virginia, Julie (Jamal) Winfield of Acworth, Georgia, Jessica Wilt of Kirkland, Washington, Jenna Wilt of Canton, Georgia, and Natalie Rechichar of Davidson, North Carolina; great-grandchildren Zoey and Colton Winfield; brother Jerry of Mesa, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for family will be held in the mausoleum chapel at Lafayette Memorial Park in Brier Hill, Pennsylvania at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 22, 2019. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Larry’s family would like to sincerely thank his caregivers with OhioHealth for their service and compassion.
