Wilma Jeanine Thompson, 85, of Winfield, went from the arms of her loving family to the loving arms of her Savior Feb. 3, 2015, at the Winfield Senior Living Community (formerly Good Samaritan Society). Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 7011 East 13th St., Wichita. Arrangements are by Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 East 13th St. North, Wichita, KS 67206. Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Wilma was born June 19, 1929, in Topeka, to William Elmer and Myrtle May (McDaniel) Dunlap. She grew up in Topeka and graduated from Seaman High School. Wilma met Charles R. Thompson, Jr., who was a member of the United States Air Force. They married Oct. 2, 1948 in Topeka. Together they traveled to Taipei, Taiwan, Agana, Guam, and Chaumont, France, as Charles served his country as an airman. Wilma often regaled friends with stories of her travels. The couple later divorced. Wilma worked in sales and management for JC Penney's in Wichita for 37 years, retiring in 1996. She loved learning new things and enjoyed reading. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed crocheting and needlework, and making special quilts for her grandchildren. As often as possible she would drive to see her sisters in Missouri, and her children as they moved around the country. Wilma was dedicated to serving the Lord. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served in many callings, including temple worker, youth Seminary teacher, Young Women's leader, Sunday school secretary, Primary Leader and Relief Society teacher. Her special interest was tracing her ancestry through genealogy, leaving her family with volumes of data tracing back many generations. She will be sorely missed by family and friends. In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Thompson, Jr.; sister, Anna Mae Brecht; an infant granddaughter; and an infant great-granddaughter. Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Underwood and husband Orlan, Winfield, and Kathleen Hill and Andrea Thompson, both of Wichita; sons, Stephen Thompson, of North Carolina, Dennis Thompson and wife Vicky, Elk Falls, and Daniel Thompson, Wichita; grandchildren, Larianne Underwood Peach, Aaron Underwood, Jared Underwood, Nathan Tyler, Michael Hill, Kasey Thompson, Nicholas Thompson, Jennifer Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Eli Thompson, Tara Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Adam Thompson-Ryan, and Bruce Cunningham; great grandchildren, Emma, Carter and Brennan Peach, Kaleb Underwood, Savannah Tyler, Sydney Kilby, Brianna, Evan, Bailey, Korbin, Brayden, Chloe and Domonick Thompson, and Laynie and Wyatt Edmonds; sisters, Dorothy McCarrison and Jaculine Moore; and many nieces and nephews.
