Virginia R. Nicolet, age 79, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. She was born on October 21, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas to parents Matthias and Barbara (Faber) Newman. Virginia graduated high school at Mt. Carmel Academy in 1962. On June 27, 1964, Virginia married her loving husband Jon Nicolet Sr. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Virginia had worked at the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for over 36 years as a Drafting Clerk until she retired. She regularly enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, gardening, traveling, and spending time with her grand, and great-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the St. Joseph congregation. Virginia also dedicated her time to the Cub Scouts as a leader for many years, to the Telephone Pioneers, and La Femme.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, brother Philip Newman, sister Pauline Newman, and grandson Jon Nicolet III. She is survived by her loving husband, daughter Stephanie (Jerome) Stockemer, sons Jon (Anna) Nicolet Jr, and David Nicolet, grandchildren Joshua (Kandi) Nicolet, Jacob Nicolet, Nicole (Tanner) Nicolet, Ryan (Beth) Latta, Drew (Kayla) Latta, and Justin (Jessica) Latta, great-grandchildren Remington Latta, Grayson Latta, Theodore Latta. Delilah Latta, Daisy Latta, Jensen Latta, and Collins Latta, siblings John Newman, Leo Newman, Francis Newman, Kathleen Smith, and Charlotte Pyle and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Recitation of the Holy Rosary for Virginia will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 7:30 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 132 S Millwood Ave, Wichita, KS 67213. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow Mass at White Chapel Memorial Gardens located at 1806 N. Oliver St., Wichita, Kansas 67208. Friends and family are invited to a reception at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Bronx Pizza and Pints located at 2140 W. 21st St., Wichita, KS 67203 for food and fellowship.
