She was born December 23, 1945, in Oakley, KS, to John and Mabel (Trowbridge) McGuire. She graduated high school from Oakley High and attended college at Halsted Nursing School to receive her degree as a RN. She worked in the medical field for 48 years and retired in 2014. She often used her medical experience to assist on church mission trips to help people in other countries.
Velda loved to travel the world and had often stated that the greatest trip she ever took was to the Holy Land seeing and touching places noted in the bible. Velda was a strong woman of faith and loved to share the good news of Jesus Christ everywhere she went and with everyone she talked to. Her passion in life was to point people to Jesus… anyone that would listen. In the mid 70’s she sang with the Metroplan Choir that was based out of the 11th and Hydraulic Church of Christ. The choir traveled all over the United States singing in colleges, penitentiaries and other churches proclaiming the name of Jesus.
Velda was a people person and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She particularly liked attending rodeos to watch her granddaughter Addison.
She is survived by her son; Darrin Stone (Jenny) of Augusta , KS, daughter; Tiffany Cox of Winfield, KS, granddaughters Addison Stone and Kailey (Tyler) Roberson and 2 great granddaughters. Brother; Don McGuire of Bartlesville, OK, 3 sisters; Marthanell Turley of Scott City, KS, Elizabeth McGuire-Salters of Stockton, MO, Luellen (Keith) Ellegood of Oakley, KS, and many nieces and nephews and some fantastic friends.
