Roy was drafted from high school to the United States Army. He served in World War II, and he returned to graduate from Gainesville, Missouri High School. He also attended SW Missouri State. He taught 1st - 8th grade in a "one room" schoolhouse at Bratcher, Missouri. Roy then moved to Kansas City, Missouri and worked for General Motors, before moving to Wichita to work for Boeing Aircraft Company. He also worked for the Kansas State Highway Commission. He retired from the City of Wichita Engineering Department after many years of service.
Roy was a life-long Cardinals baseball fan and was a great softball pitcher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors as much as possible. He loved his church family, helping others and had a great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan M. Goodwyn; his parents, Robert and Ellen Goodwyn; his brothers, O'Dean Goodwyn and Walter Goodwyn; his sister, Doris Oxley; and his nephew, Bobby Goodwyn.
Roy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor J. Goodwyn; sons, Tom (Cindy) Goodwyn and Mike Goodwyn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Celebration of Life Service for Roy will be held 2 PM, Thursday, November 16th, 2023, at East Point Church of Christ, 747 North 127th Street East, Wichita, Kansas 67206.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.
